• Selected for Identity: From Memory to Becoming

I'm honored to share that two works from my Visual Lexicon series have been selected for Identity: From Memory to Becoming, a group exhibition presented by Stars in the Arts, running June 2–7 on the Upper West Side, Manhattan.

Geshmak — Yiddish for delicious. Like Herring in Compot — Yiddish for feeling out of place.

Two words. Two works. The whole of diaspora in between.

These pieces are part of the visual language I'm building alongside my trilingual artist book Let me tell you something — a work tracing my family's journey from pre-WWII Romania to Peru through recipes, Yiddish phrases, and inherited stories.

The show asks what contains us. For me the answer keeps returning to the same things: a word with no translation, a recipe in someone else's handwriting, the smell of something that takes you somewhere you've never been but somehow know.

The exhibition runs June 2–7, with an opening reception on June 2nd and a special gallery event on June 4th featuring a performance by Vanessa Hidary. 30% of sales go to Magen David Adom.
